Family's tribute to 80-year-old crash victim

The family of a man killed in a crash near Longridge have released a tribute to him.

Ernest Robinson, 80, from Longridge, was killed in an accident involving two vehicles close to the White Bull Pub on Preston Road in Alston, earlier this month.

Mr Robinson suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A father, husband and grandfather, he leaves behind a wife, two children and four grandchildren.

His family’s statement said: “Ernie was a selfless, loving and loyal family man who put a smile onto everyone’s face.

“Ernie was a devoted husband; when the collision occurred he was on his twice daily trip to visit his wife of 60 years who is a resident in a nearby care home.

“The world has lost a true gentleman, a generous, kind man who always had a good word and a helping hand for everyone.

“Ernie leaves behind a successful business, which he built up from scratch, a legacy he started to support his family and one which will continue in his honour as it employs his two sons, along with one of his daughter’s-in-law.

“Ernie will be missed by many, he was a well-known and respected figure in the local area and a regular at the boot sales.”

A 25-year-old man from Longridge had been driving a Ford van when it collided with the Mr Robinson’s car.
