Express delivery for new mum and dad
The little boy wasn’t for waiting when he made a dramatic entrance on the bathroom floor on Friday.
Mum Kim Chapman, 34, gave birth just five minutes after her water broke at 2.55am, and dad Simon has to to stand in as midwife.
Simon, 33, who works in IT, said: “Kim was three days overdue and at about 2am got out of bed feeling nauseated. I rang the hospital to ask if this was an issue and was told no and to see how she got on in a couple of hours.
“But then literally as she said that, Kim’s waters broke.”
With Kim saying she felt like she wanted to push, and with ambulance crews struggling to find their new-build in Heron Drive, off Eastway, Fulwood, Simon got on the floor of the bathroom himself.
He said: “I panicked a bit when the head popped out. Kim had a bump, so she couldn’t see what I could.
“Then with one push out he came, with the cord wrapped twice around his neck.
“I was on the phone to the midwife and I very carefully unwrapped the cord. I was so focused on that, that I didn’t even look to see whether he was a boy or a girl.”
He added: “It was crazy how quickly he came - after only one contraction and one push. She didn’t have any pain either.
“The medics have told us they’ve never had this before with someone’s first baby.
“I think it’s because she’s kept herself so fit throughout the pregnancy, she goes to the gym all the time.”
Kim, who works as a project manager and 6lb 9oz Sebastian were taken for hospital for checks, but are doing well.
Sebastian was introduced to excited elder brother Liam Roper, nine, on Saturday.
