Tom Morton posted this picture on social media of ball lightning over Ballam Road, Lytham at 11.20am, while Mark Woodward of Lancashire Fire Service called it a 'spectacular light show' looking west as he posted the video shown here.
The lightning headed towards Lancashire from the direction of North Wales but unusually was not accompanied by thunder or rain.
A few hours earlier, some lightning had been accompanied by a short spell of thunder and rain, as had been forecast.
