Easter eggs-pecting to beat the weather

Forecasters predict a chilly Easter, but there are still plenty of events planned in Lancashire to warm up the holiday weekend.

Thousands are expected to turn out for the biggest three – the Preston Passion on Good Friday, the traditional egg rolling in Avenham Park on Monday and the Chorley Grand Prix cycle race on Saturday. But there are dozens more on offer to help adults and children have an egg-citing Easter regardless of the weather.

Egg hunts, family fun days, farmers’ markets, craft fairs and historic battle re-enactments are all scheduled over the four-day break.

Churches will be holding special Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. Yet the largest religious gathering is likely to be in Preston city centre around lunchtime on Friday when more than 140 performers will deliver a modern Passion Play, starting in Winckley Square Gardens at 11.30am and moving along Fishergate to the Flag Market.

The annual egg rolling in Avenham Park will be staged (11-4), with eggs being rolledon the hour. As usual the event will include an Easter bonnet contest.

The Chorley Grand Prix starts at 11am on Park Road and will see professional cyclists tackle a 116-mile course around the borough.

Lancaster Castle will stage a dramatic three-day (Saturday – Monday) event called “The Normans are Coming” involving combat displays.
