Disqualified driver caught in Wesham with suspected cocaine after early-morning police stop

A disqualified driver was arrested in Wesham after police found suspected cocaine in her vehicle during an early-morning stop.

Officers spotted the car last week and recognised the driver as someone who was currently banned from driving. She was detained at the roadside and arrested.

Police carried out a roadside drug test which returned a positive result for cocaine.

A subsequent search of the driver and the vehicle uncovered several small snap bags of powder believed to be cocaine.

The woman was taken into custody, where officers say she refused to carry out the required drug-driving procedure.

Tia Smith, 37, of The Close, Kirkham, was later charged with driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, driving without insurance and possession of a class A drug.

She is due to appear before Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on February 13.
