Details of 300 homes agreed by councillors
Story Homes submitted the details for up to 300 homes north of Eastway and south of D’Urton Lane, on a mixed-use development including retail, employment and community facilities.
The plans were almost derailed following a row over the removal of part of a woodland buffer for one of the houses, but an agreement was eventually reached and the plans were approved unanimously.
Officers at Preston Council had recommended the plans for approval, but neighbours said trees making up part of a landscape buffer was being removed. Martin Nugent, of Story Homes, said the plot of one home had been positioned to avoid a stretch of hedgerow, and would take part of the buffer away.
But neighbours and committee members argued against the proposal. After heated discussions and an adjournment of the planning meeting, it was agreed the plot of the home would be adjusted so it would not touch the buffer. Coun Peter Moss said: “I think committee members should note and be grateful for the flexibility that’s been shown by the developers and the help the officers have given to what I see now as a reasonable conclusion.”
