Decision day looms for Leyland pizza shop seeking 3am licence
The shop is next to The Railway pub in Leyland.
Pizza shop bosses seeking a licence to operate until 3am will find out their fate next week.
South Ribble Borough Council (SRBC) is hosting a licencing committing meeting at 2pm on September 8 to discuss the application by Leyland Taste Ltd for Pizza GoGo in Preston Road to have a Late Night Refreshment licence, which would allow them to operate from 11am to 1am Monday to Thursday, and from 11am till 3am Friday to Sunday.
Currently, the shop - which also sells desserts and drinks - is open from 12pm to 11pm, seven days a week.
The application has triggered an objection from a local resident, who believes early hours trading “would cause a significant increase in noise at unsocial hours, particularly on Fridays and weekends when customers from the Railway nightclub are likely to visit the takeaway.”
The objection states: “The Railway's customers are already very noisy when leaving the premises on Fridays and Saturdays and often congregate outside while waiting for taxis etc. The takeaway remaining open into the early hours would cause even more noise disruption because it would attract those leaving the nightspot. In addition to noise disruption, it also has the potential to lead to increased anti-social and criminal behaviour, as well as litter. Additional noise might be generated by delivery drivers who often leave their engines running outside the takeaway.
“Furthermore, if this takeaway is permitted to open later, other takeaways in Preston Road might also apply for similar licencing. It would set a precedent and the other takeaways are even closer to people's homes. This would be incredibly disruptive to the lives of those living opposite the row of takeaways in Preston Road (including myself), as well as residents on neighbouring streets such as George Street, Moss Lane, Boundary Street, Derby Street and Stanifield Lane.”

In a statement to SRBC, the applicant says: “We are committed to fostering a safe and secure environment by adhering to all four licencing objectives. This includes preventing crime and disorder, safeguarding safety, minimising public nuisance and protecting children.” They sau that CCTV will be in operation and any incidents involving violence will be reported to the police.
They say that no children will be allowed on the premises after 11pm and that customers will be asked to leave quietly.
There have been no objections received from any of the responsible authorities to this application.
