Custody staff praised in letter from prisoner

A prisoner who spent two days in custody surprised staff by writing a letter of praise.

The handwritten letter was sent to staff at Cheadle Heath Custody Suite and thanked them for showing “respect and dignity”.

It goes on to say it is “the first time I ever had respect of police”, despite “many weekend bang ups”.

The woman was arrested in connection with theft and breach of bail. She was later charged with both offences.

Superintendent Chris Hankinson said: “People end up in custody for a number of different reasons and many are often in a very vulnerable state.

“Our priority is to ensure they get the support they need and staff work tirelessly in incredibly difficult circumstances to achieve this.

“I’m grateful this lady took the time to thank the staff and I hope her next encounter with GMP is equally as pleasant, but on the right side of the custody door.”
