Woman held on suspicion of assisting suicide in Lancashire

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting or encouraging suicide after the death of a 19-year-old man in Lancashire.

Police discovered the teenager’s body and a 46-year-old woman with serious injuries at a hotel in Clayton-le-Moors, near Accrington, following reports of concerns for their welfare.

The woman was given first aid at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa in Blackburn Road at about 1.45am on Thursday and taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where she is in a stable condition.

The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

There is nothing at this stage to suggest any other persons are involved, said Lancashire Police.

A spokesman said: “Following inquiries, the woman has now been arrested on suspicion of assisting or encouraging suicide.

“The families of those involved have been contacted and our thoughts are with them at this time.

“A post-mortem examination has been carried out on the man but the cause of death remains unascertained.”
