This is why the police drone was out in Preston last night

A machete fight between two groups of men led to a huge police response in Preston last night (Tuesday, September 15).

The armed brawl broke out on the Savick estate, near the row of shops in West Park Avenue and Birkdale Drive, shortly before 4pm.

Terrified residents called 999 when the men openly confronted each other in the street whilst armed with machetes and knives.

A fight briefly broke out, but the men fled after they heard the police sirens quickly approaching.

The worrying incident led to a visible police presence around Larches and Savick, with the police drone mobilised to search for the men.

Armed officers were also dispatched to the area to help patrol the streets and safeguard the public.

In the early evening, officers arrested two men, aged 24 and 25, both from Preston.

They were arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in custody this afternoon.

Lancashire Police said no injuries have been reported following the armed brawl.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 3.55pm yesterday (Tuesday, September 15) to reports of an affray on West Park Avenue, Preston.

"We attended and it was reported that two groups of men had been seen fighting in the area while in possession of knives and machetes.

"No injuries have been reported.

"Two people were arrested a short time later. They are men, aged 24 and 25 and from Preston, who were arrested on suspicion of affray.

"Both remain in custody.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and anybody with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting log 954 of September 15."
