One young woman said the atmosphere had been 'really peaceful' before the incident.

Megan Parkinson said: "It wasn’t rowdy at all, it was really peaceful and it was like that all night up until 10pm when that lad had a machete.

"I was at the shop but I heard loads of shouting and saw loads of people running, so I went back down to check on my other mates and everyone was saying he had a machete.

"That's when the atmosphere changed and the police sent everyone home."
