A police spokesman said: "We’ve had reports of cars parked at RPH having their windows smashed – nothing stolen. Both under investigation."

Simon Ashcroft, a porter at RPH, said his partner's car was one of those targeted in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, April 15).

His fiance Nicola Welsh, a 28-year-old mental health support worker, had to take her car to be repaired after a gruelling 12-hour shift.

He said: "Based on the CCTV, it looks like it's a man in a black hoody who went around checking cars at RPH them smashing them for fun.

"It happened last night. My partner came out this morning and found it smashed in.

"I understand another car parked near the canteen has also been done.

"In a time when staff at the hospital, including myself, are putting themselves at risk to help those with coronavirus, this is scum at its best."

A Facebook fundraising page has been set up by RPH staff to help with the cost of repairs.
