Van driver arrested for drug driving after head-on crash with cyclist in Leyland

A van driver who was believed to be under the influence of drugs when he collided head-on with a cyclist has been arrested.

Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Midge Hall at around 2pm yesterday (Sunday, February 28).

It is understood the driver failed to negotiate a bend in the road, crashing with a cyclist travelling in the opposite direction.

An image released from the scene shows the vehicle's windscreen had smashed due to the impact of the collision.

"Unbelievably" the cyclist only sustained "minor injuries", police said.

Officers confirmed the van driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and driving without due care and attention.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "T1 TacOps have been dealing with an RTC in Midge Hall where the driver of this van failed to negotiate a left hand bend, colliding head on with a cyclist.

"Unbelievably the rider sustained minor injuries.
