A train guard was violently attacked in a "disturbance" at Preston train station, say police.

Police were called to the station at around 9pm on Saturday, July 7 following reports that a train guard had been headbutted and put into a headlock before being dragged from a train.

British Transport Police attended and say they were forced to use pepper spray to subdue one man after the incident escalated.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Preston station following reports of two men causing a disturbance.

"Police attended and two 28-year-old-men (one from Manchester, the other of no fixed address) were arrested on suspicion of railway trespass and a public order offence.

"They were each released under police investigation whilst enquiries continue."
