Today we remember local women and girls, aged from seven weeks to 88, who have died at the hands of men in the county.

We also acknowledge a further seven women and youngsters, aged from seven weeks to 94, who we are unable to name due to pending legal proceedings.

Female members of JPI media staff have read out the names of every Lancashire victim in a video, in a bid to raise awareness of the shameful tally of deadly violence against the county’s women.

Blackpool grandmother Josephine Gilliard, 73, was bludgeoned with a garden ornament and stabbed 10 times by husband Frederick Gilliard, then 76, at the home they shared in Links Road. Gilliard (pictured) who served in the RAF for 27 years and had suffered from depression, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was jailed for four years.

Three-year-old Preston tot Lia died of injuries caused by a severe blow to the abdomen. Her dad Richard Green, 23, of Harling Road, Preston, was sentenced to seven years after admitting manslaughter two weeks into his trial at Preston Crown Court. Her mother Natalie Critchley, 21, of Norris Street, Preston, was jailed for 21 months for child neglect. The court heard she failed to seek prompt medical attention for Lia which would have "almost certainly" saved her life.

Her partner Paul Chadwick, 34, admitted two counts of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order. 16-year-old Staining girl Sasha Marsden was stabbed 58 times by sexually-motivated killer David Minto, 23, who lured her to the Grafton House Hotel, Kirby Road, Blackpool with a false job offer. Minto sexually assaulted the childcare student, and stabbed her in the head and neck with a kitchen knife. He removed her partially clothed body, wrapped it in carpet underlay, a black bin liner and bedding and tried to burn her. He is serving a minimum of 35 years in prison.
