Tact Ops patrols trawled the city for the luxury car and a police appeal went out on social media to help trace it.

24 hours later, officers found the stolen Bentley abandoned in a street in Fulwood. It was swiftly recovered and inspected by CSI for DNA evidence before being returned to its grateful owner.

Officers involved in the pursuit and subsequent search said the Bentley is the third luxury coupe to be stolen from homes in Preston in the last 6 months.

They said all three cars had been recovered, with one investigation leading to a suspect being arrested. The man had been in the process of moving one of the cars to another part of the UK on false plates.

Prior to the successful recovery, the force tweeted: "Can you help find this car? A green Bentley Continental GT V13JCA failed to stop for #T1TacOps in Preston at 5:30am.

"Inquiries revealed the address of the elderly owner in Ashton had been burgled for the 2nd time in recent weeks & the keys stolen. Can you help us reunite them?"
