Preston woman accused of 'poisoning' children

A Preston woman has been charged with two counts administering a poison or noxious substances to a young girl and baby boy.

The woman and her children cannot be identified for legal reasons.

It is understood an investigation was launched in 2016 by Lancashire Police.

The 26-year-old is accused of unlawfully and maliciously administering a poison or noxious thing - insulin - to the girl on February 28 and April 9, 2016, at an address in Preston, and an alternative count of cruelty to a child.

She also faces a further allegation of unlawfully and maliciously administering salt to the baby boy, and another alternative count of cruelty to a child.

Preston Crown Court was told it could be March 2021 before a trial could potentially take place.

In the meantime a case management hearing will take place on June 8.
