Preston tribute to key workers vandalised

Mindless vandals have torn down a tribute to key workers in a Preston park.

The floral tribute with a rainbow-coloured wooden sign was situated in Miller Park.

Today Preston Parks posted pictures of the vandalism on social media and vowed to restore it.

Staff tweeted: "We are saddened & disappointed to report the wonderful 'Thank You Keyworkers' sign & flowerbed in Miller Park has been vandalised.

"Rest assured our fantastic team will restore and re-plant."

The flower bed had already been stripped for winter, but it has been damaged.

Preston City Council tweeted: "This is a very sad sight"

Preston City Centre BID replied: "Let's build it back, bigger and better!"

Coun Robert Boswell, Cabinet member for environment and community safety, said: "It's very disappointing that there are unthinking and selfish people who view vandalism as acceptable.

"The sign was put up as a thank you to key workers for their efforts during the on-going pandemic.

"Our gardeners and parks teams work wonders all year round to keep our green spaces looking beautiful for everyone to enjoy - spaces that have been especially welcome this year. So I'm saddened by this news."

The incident has been reported to Lancashire Police."
