In an earlier incident on August 14, Murphy admits interfering with an Audi A4 vehicle in Preston and damaging a cell at Preston Police Station to the tune of £160 when he was arrested two days later.

He admits theft, going equipped, fraud, vehicle interference and criminal damage.

The magistrates said custody was necessary due to his record, commission of offences while on bail, and the fact he was subject to post sentence supervision.

But they suspended the term, remarking he had been offered stable accommodation and was engaging with the probation service.

He got a rehabilitation requirement and must pay a £128 surcharge.
