Oliver Murphy, of Tulketh Crescent, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, downloaded thousands of indecent images of children, Preston Crown Court was told.
The offences put the 26-year-old defendant in breach of a sexual harm order which stated he cannot use a device capable of accessing the internet unless he makes it available on request for inspection by a police officer.
Judge Graham Knowles QC also activated part of a previous six month suspended jail term.
