Connor Rumble, 25, and Grant Gardner, 24, who also live at Kayley House, are accused of his murder.

Rumble, wearing a grey jumper and white face mask, appeared separately to his co-defendant due to distancing guidelines.

He was asked to pull down his mask to confirm his full name to the court, before the case was committed to Preston Crown Court,

The clerk informed him the court had no powers to deal with a bail application and he was remanded in custody until his appearance at the higher court on Wednesday.

The dock was cleaned before Gardner, sporting a black eye, was brought in by two guards.

Gardner's case was also committed to the Crown Court.
