Preston man who 'held himself hostage' using pitchfork arrested after armed siege in Ingol

A man has been arrested after "holding himself hostage" with a pitchfork for approximately three hours in Ingol.

Police were called to reports of a man walking with a sword on Dovedale Avenue in Ingol this morning (May 22).

The man was found at an address in possession of a pitchfork and a knife when officers rushed to the scene at around 8.05am.

Armed officers and a police negotiator were called to the incident and a cordon was put in place.

Police have now confirmed a 54-year-old man has been arrested after holding himself hostage for approximately three hours.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "A 54-year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of affray and is in custody."

15 police cars and an ambulance were spotted in the area during the armed siege, according to eyewitness reports.

Police wearing riot gear also attended the incident.

In a previous statement, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We are in attendance to this area. It is a welfare incident."
