Preston gym issued with prohibition notice for 'operating during lockdown'
A gym has been issued with a prohibition notice for remaining open despite the current lockdown restrictions.
Reps Gym in Roman Way Industrial Estate was visited by police and Environmental Health Officers from Preston City Council this afternoon (January 15).
Officers said the proprietor had 'allowed the business to remain open' in contravention to the third national lockdown rules ordering gyms to close.
The city council issued the gym owner with a prohibition notice and everyone inside was issued with a fixed penalty notice by Preston Police for breaching lockdown rules.
Chief Insp Chris Barton, of Preston Police, said: "We are working around the clock with our partners to protect the public from this terrible pandemic, which is made all the more difficult when the restrictions are disregarded in such a way.
"We know it’s a really tough time for people but I have little sympathy for the behaviour of those involved in today’s incident.
"We thank the vast majority of the public who adhere to the restrictions but will continue to take enforcement action against those who have complete disregard for the law. It is vital we work together in order to keep people safe and protect our NHS.”
