Preston Community Gateway worker headbutted man and was abusive to paramedics

Paramedics had to call police when a patient they were treating became abusive to them, a court has heard.

As Jack Webster-Croly was being treated it emerged he had headbutted a man in on Church Street, Preston, moments earlier, Preston magistrates were told.

The victim, Raymond Jackson, who had been out with friends, was left with a gash to his chin.

Prosecuting, Elliott Taylforth revealed the offence only came to light when defendant Webster-Croly, a maintenance worker for housing association Community Gateway, was himself being treated in an ambulance and had started being abusive to paramedics.

The 23-year-old, of Raikes Road, Ribbleton, Preston, pleaded guilty to assault after the incident on December 8.

Mr Taylforth said: “In the early hours of December 9 police were called by ambulance staff to report an aggressive male in the rear of an ambulance.

“They managed to calm him down but at that point Mr Jackson approached the police and explained the defendant had assaulted him.

“He had been out with friends. In between pubs he was approached by the defendant who was being verbally abusive - he couldn’t understand what he was saying and he was clearly in drink.

“Mr Jackson saw the defendant later and approached him to ask why he had been abusive.”

He was given a 12 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement, probation programme, Â£85 surcharge, and Â£85 costs.
