Fitzgerald was due to face a trial in December for three counts of common assault against two women aged 21 and 42, and a 23-year-old man, and witness intimidation.

However the dad was cleared at a hearing before Preston Crown Court, in which prosecutors instead laid a breach of the peace allegation.

He admitted the breach, and Judge Richard Gioserano bound him over for 12 months, meaning he has to be of good behaviour for the next year or he will have to pay the sum of £500.

Fitzgerald, who previously gave an address of Station Road, Ormskirk, had been quizzed following a disturbance at an address on Ryelands Crescent in Preston.

After being released on police bail the 28-year-old former Commonwealth Games champion – who has since had his boxing licence suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control – proceeded to post a video, later deleted, on social media.

Unbeaten in the ring since turning professional in 2015, Fitzgerald beat Ted Cheesman in Newcastle to become British champion and became a National ABA champion at 21.
