Two men had their motorbikes seized after they recklessly raced each other around the streets...

Police seized seven vehicles and recovered a stolen car during a weekend crackdown on illegal and nuisance vehicles across Chorley and South Ribble.

Officers carried out Operation Raptor, targeting vehicles including motorcycles, e-bikes, e-scooters and Sur-Rons - including two motorcycles whose riders were racing each around the streets of Clayton Brook.

Last month, the Post reported that Lancashire Police had seized more illegal and nuisance e-bikes than nearly every other force in the UK. You can find the exact numbers and how the Lancashire force compares with others in our report.

The Constabulary said the weekend’s Operation Raptor followed concerns raised by members of the public about vehicles being ridden or driven recklessly around local streets and roads.

A spokesperson for the force said: “It was another successful weekend targeting illegal and nuisance vehicles across Chorley and South Ribble.

“You, the public, regularly tell us that you’re fed up with illegal and nuisance vehicles racing around our streets — particularly e-bikes, e-scooters and Sur-Rons — and that you’re concerned somebody is going to get seriously injured or worse.

“So, we thought we’d show you exactly what we’ve been up to this weekend…”

Bank holiday crackdown

  • Two motorcycles were seized after their riders were stopped following reports they had been racing each other around Clayton Brook. Neither rider had insurance.
  • A car was seized after its driver was stopped for allegedly racing along Eaves Lane, Chorley. Checks found the driver was disqualified and uninsured, and they were reported for both offences.
  • Another car was seized under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act after its driver allegedly ran away from officers. A search of the vehicle uncovered a number of items police said were used in criminality.
  • A further car was seized for having no insurance.
  • An e-scooter was seized for having no insurance and being ridden without a licence.
  • An e-bike was seized for the same offences.
  • A stolen car was also recovered and sent for forensic examination.

The force said the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes, e-scooters, Sur-Rons - as well as reckless and speeding drivers - remained a priority following repeated complaints from the community.
