Police were called at around 4pm to reports somebody had approached an address on Heysham Road, Morecambe, before shooting at the front door and then fleeing the scene.

Police now know that the offender arrived in the area with another person in a red Skoda Fabia, which has since been located in the Manchester area.

Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Police say a shooting incident in Heysham was a targeted attack.

Police are also now treating the incident as a targeted attack and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.

Police enquiries are very much ongoing and detectives and crime scene investigators remain at the scene both here and in Manchester.

Police will continue to have increased high-visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance to residents, and anybody with concerns or information relevant to the investigation is welcome to speak to an officer.

Police need to identify the two people in the red car and are asking anybody with information about who they might be to get in touch.

Det Supt Becky Smith, of Lancashire Police, said: “We know this incident has caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure residents that incidents such as this are very rare and we are taking it extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers working tirelessly to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“We know last night people in the area had a lot of questions about the incident, and that there was a good deal of speculation on social media. However, we are now in a position to reassure you that we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.

“We are also appealing for information about the incident. In particular we would like to hear from anybody who saw the red Skoda Fabia approaching or leaving Heysham Road at the time of the incident or anywhere else in the Heysham/Morecambe area towards the motorway network , anybody who was in the area and may have caught the car on dashcam or other footage, or anybody with information about who the two men in the car might have been.

“It’s vital that we identify those responsible as soon as possible so I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us straight away."

Anybody with information can call 101, quoting log 397 of August 1, or alternatively you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
