At around 5.20pm on December 2, two men wearing balaclavas stormed into the Elswick Road Post Office wielding a gun and demanding staff hand over cash.
The pair left empty-handed and reportedly escaped along with two to three other men who had been waiting outside in a grey Audi A3. The car was later found abandoned less than a mile away in Brook Place, Lea.

Lancashire Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the robbery, but are hoping that CCTV taken of a man in a car at a drive-thru might provide detectives with a lead in their investigation.
The force is appealing to anyone who might recognise the man pictured to come forward.
Det Con Rachel Scott, of Preston CID, said: "Do you recognise this man? We wish to speak to him in relation to an armed robbery at a post office in Ashton-on-Ribble.
