Jason Batchelor, 24, of Hawthorn Road, Ribbleton, Preston, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting his partner on April 7 and on April 12 in a hearing before Preston Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutors said the victim, a mum-of-three, had not reported the first assault to the police and it only came to light after a second more serious assault.

Defending Batchelor, Steve Scott said: “They have known each other for about 10 years.

“They commenced a relationship five years ago.

“He had a very troubled upbringing and witnessed domestic violence and physical abuse.

“That took a large toll on him. He struggled academically and attended a special school.

“He had behavioural problems and left school with some difficulties with which he still struggles.

“He has effectively been on his own since the age of 15 and practically brought himself up.”

The chairman of the bench said: “ At the time you were on a community order for a very similar offence.

“ You forced your victim to leave the house and there was a significant breach of trust.

He was given an eight week sentence suspended for two years, a rehabilitation activity and must pay a £115 surcharge.
