Man 'throwing tiles off roof' forces section of road to close in Darwen

A section of Blackburn Road in Darwen has been closed due to a man throwing tiles off a roof.

Road closures have been put in place after a man was spotted throwing tiles off a roof in Darwen today (March 5).

The man is reportedly on Blackburn Road, close to Hollins Grove Surgery.

Eyewitnesses have reported hearing the man shouting "legalise cannabis" from the roof.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at around 1.10pm to an address on Blackburn Road, Darwen after reports of a man on a roof throwing tiles.

"Officers are at the scene and have closed the road in the immediate vicinity while they deal with the incident.

"Diversions are in place."

Part of Blackburn Road has been closed off and traffic is being diverted via Earcroft Way and Hollins Road.

Police are asking people to avoid the area until further notice.

A spokesperson for Blackburn Bus Company said: "Due to a police incident the No. 1 buses are unable to reach stops from Branch Road to Darwen town centre.

"We're using a different route through lower Darwen and Goosehouse."
