Man charged with attempted murder after hit and run and knife attack in Blackburn

Detectives investigating an attempted murder in Blackburn have charged a 37-year-old man.

Christopher Foster, 37, of Holt Street West, Bury has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Blackburn yesterday.

Police were called at around 5.15am yesterday (Tuesday, May 5) to reports a man had been hit by a van and then attacked with a knife in Snowden Avenue, Blackburn.

The victim, a 34-year-old Blackburn man, was struck by a Vauxhall Movano van and then allegedly attacked by the driver with a knife.

The victim suffered significant injuries to his leg and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the van was later arrested near Horwich.

In addition to the charge of attempted murder, Foster is also charged with dangerous driving and possession of a bladed article.

He is due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, May 6)

Footage of the shocking incident has appeared on social media, but Lancashire Police is urging people not to share the distressing video.

A police spokesman said: "We are aware that footage of the incident is circulating on social media and we would ask that this is not shared as it is both causing distress to the victim’s family and has the potential to prejudice legal proceedings."
