Leyland man bailed after being arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager in local park

A man who was arrested after a teenager was raped in a Leyland park yesterday, has now been bailed.

The 18-year-old suspect, from Leyland, was taken into custody after a teenage girl reported being raped in Strawberry Valley Park in Bent Lane at around 4am on Friday (July 22).

However today, Lancashire Police told the Post that the local man, arrested on suspicion of rape, had been bailed.

Yesterday morning, officers taped off an area of Strawberry Valley Park whilst CSI carried out a forensic examination at the scene, but the cordon has now been removed and the park reopened to the public.

The age of the victim has not been released at this stage, but police confirmed the young woman is in her teens.

Yesterday, a spokesman for the force said: “We were called at approximately 4am today (July 22) following a report of rape.

“It is early in our investigation and the victim is being supported by officers.”
