Leyland 'buried puppy' trial: new date set for couple's trial to resume

Seven week old Pomeranian, Spencer, was found buried in a shallow hole in a field close to Worden Park on April 27, 2019, but had suffered two severely broken legs.

Vets later decided it was kinder to put him to sleep.

His owner, Inga Ozola, 43, and her partner of 15 years, Arunas Venslovas, 50, both of Seven Stars Road, Leyland, both deny failing to ensure Spencer received appropriate veterinary care for his injuries, and Ozola denies causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal between April 24 and 27, 2019.

Vets for Pets in Leyland had previously informed them Spencer required surgery costing £2,000, or other options of amputation or euthanasia for his legs.

The trial at Preston Magistrates Court had to be halted on July 13 as the proceedings overran their two day time slot.

The couple claim five days before the incident Mr Venslovas had bumped into an acquaintance called ‘Raminas’ he knew through work who wanted a puppy, offered to take him to Latvia for surgery and take him on afterwards.
