Lancashire Police make arrests after spate of burglaries in Preston

Two men have been arrested and charged after a spate of burglaries in Preston.

The first arrest was made at around 2am yesterday (Sunday, August 7) after police were called to reports somebody had been seen trying the door handles of homes in Fulwood.

Officers attended an address on Croftgate, where a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of one burglary and five attempted burglaries.

He has since been charged and named as James Evans, 39, of Finkle Street, Doncaster.

He is due in Preston Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday, August 8) on suspicion of four counts of attempted burglary and one count of burglary and theft.

The second arrest was made just an hour later, at around 3.10am, following reports someone had been seen acting suspiciously in a garden in Ashton.

Officers visited the home in Ashton Close and found a man with a shopping trolley full of stolen items. It is believed the items were being stored on a driveway in front of a house in the area.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary in a dwelling.

He has since been charged and named as Jason Ord, 45, of Preesall Road, Preston. He is also due in Magistrates’ Court this morning on suspicion of theft by finding.

Ch Insp Mark Baines, of Preston Police, said: “We received both calls in the early hours of Sunday morning, and immediately deployed to both. Two people have since been arrested and charged in relation to separate incidents.

“We will not stand for this type of crime, which causes a great deal of worry within communities, and leaves victims feeling violated and unsafe in their own homes.
