Police cordoned off an area outside Preston bus station as a rape investigation was launched.

A police cordon was set up outside Preston bus station on Tuesday morning (July 12).

Pictures from the scene show a grass verge in Tithebarn Street, located directly outside the station, was cordoned off.

Numerous police vehicles were also spotted in the area, with officers patrolling the perimeter of the cordon.

The force later confirmed they were called to reports a woman in her 20s had been raped in Tithebarn Street at around 12.50am.

“She is currently being supported by specially trained officers,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police added.

“No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries are ongoing.

“Reassurance patrols have been increased as a precaution but this is being treated as an isolated incident.”
