Here is this week's round-up of cases at Preston's courts.

Man is jailed over domestic violence

A man has been jailed over a domestic violence incident involving his former partner.

James Betts of Highgale Gardens, Lostock Hall, near Preston, appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court.

The 30-year-old dad admitted assaulting the woman in Preston on March 9.

He also pleaded guilty to a further assault on a female police detention officer on the same day.

The magistrates bench jailed him for 12 weeks, and said the offences were made more serious due to the victim’s vulnerability, her fear of being injured and his previous criminal record.

The court was told Betts had a history of domestic violence against previous partners.

He was given a restraining order for two years.

He must also pay a total of £250 compensation to the women and a £115 victim surcharge.

HGV driver faked tachograph data

A heavy goods vehicle driver has admitted deliberately altering a lorry tachograph with intent to deceive the authorities.

Sebastian Andrzej Blizniak, 33, from St Mildred’s Way in Heysham, near Lancaster, is more than £1,000 out of pocket after he also admitted failing to take a reduced daily rest period of at least nine consecutive hours, and a further offence of driving motor vehicle for more than 10 hours in a working day in contravention of regulations.

He appeared before Chorley Magistrates’ Court

The 33-year-old was ordered to pay a £419 fine by the bench, along with a £42 victim surcharge and costs of £311.

The court heard the offences came to light in November when he was stopped at Heysham Dock.

Yasmin Kathryn Thirkle, 37, of Tansley Avenue Coppull, admits assaulting a PC and being disorderly and must pay a £181 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Neil Clifford Kershaw, 44, of Lawnwood Avenue, Chorley, was banned for 17 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £265 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Susan Knowles, 45, of Carrington Road, Adlington, Chorley, must have eight months of drug treatment and pay £10 compensation after admitting theft of steak.

Jodie Farrington, 22, of Wellington Street, Chorley, was given a six month discharge after admitting assault but must pay a £20 surcharge.

Luke Smith, 26, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 18 weeks after admitting a string of three shop thefts and must pay £100 compensation.

John McKechnie, 22, of Preesall Road, Preston, was jailed for 12 weeks and must pay £200 compensation after admitting damaging windows, possessing cocaine and stealing a bike.

Tanya Palmer, 27, of Stone Croft, Penwortham, must pay £100 compensation to a woman she admits assaulting, and a £160 fine.

Jodie Prenger, 37, of Fleetwood Road, Esprick, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £660 fine, £66 surcharge and £250 costs.

Daniel Turner, 30, of Alder Close, Leyland, was found guilty of using a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements and must pay a £125 fine, £30 surcharge and £100 costs.

Alexander Tyrer, 25, of Parker Street, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, was found guilty of using a car that did not meet insurance requirements and must pay a £145 fine, £30 surcharge and £100 costs.
