Valentine’s card ‘breached order’

A man who breached a restraining order by sending a woman a Valentine’s card has been given a rehabilitation requirement.

Michael John Geoghegan, 29, of Lulworth Avenue, Ashton, Preston, pleaded guilty to two breaches of the order which relates to him sending a Facebook message on February 5, and visiting her home four days later.

The bench ordered him to pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The court said the breach was “relatively mild” and acknowledged he was approached by the victim first.

The court heard in the second incident on February 9, he sent a card and banged on the front door of her home address.

The offences were committed during a suspended jail term for assaulting a woman and the court increased the length of the suspension from 18 month to 24 months.

Youngster saw headbutting attack

A man who headbutted a woman while a child was present has been given a 18-week jail term suspended for 18 months.

Shane Martyn Wright, of Alma Row, Hoghton, near Preston, pleaded guilty to assaulting the victim in Leyland.

The bench at Preston Magistrates’ Court ruled the offence was aggravated by the presence of the child, the woman’s resulting injuries and the use of Wright’s head as a ‘weapon’.

They made a 12-month restraining order banning him contacting her.

The 29-year-old defendant was given a tagged curfew and a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He must also pay his victim £300 compensation and was ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

Christopher Murphy, 32, of Fishergate Hill, Preston, was given a curfew and alcohol treatment order after admitting using threatening behaviour and must pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Alexander Swales, 20, of Thornton Avenue, South Shields, was given a 16-week jail term suspended for two years after admitting a racist assault in Preston and must pay £200 compensation.

Kallem Almond, 23, of Baker Street, Lancaster, was found guilty of not paying his road tax and must pay a £220 fine, £80 back duty, and £85 costs.

James Greenwood, 43, of Bell Villas, Hoghton, near Preston, was found guilty of failing to give information relevant to an environmental investigation and must pay a £750 fine, £995 costs and a £75 surcharge.

Graham Watson, 30, of Meadowcroft Road, Chorley, must pay £270 compensation, an £85 surcharge and £100 costs after admitting smashing a window at the Golden Star restaurant in Leyland.

Simon Anderson, 34, of Long Marsh Lane, Lancaster, was jailed for 12 weeks after admitting breaching a restraining order.

Martin Hughes, 28, of Euston Road, Morecambe, admits failing to comply with sexual offender notification requirements by failing to register an address on his release from prison and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Richard Carefoot, 24, of Radburn Close, Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley, admits possessing cannabis and must pay a £200 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Gareth Marland, 35, of Tulketh Road, Ashton, Preston, admits damaging a woman’s TV and possessing diazepam, and must pay a £165 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.
