'It's very shocking in a quiet area like this' - neighbours horror as murder probe is launched following discovery of elderly man's body at house in Preston
Neighbours of an elderly man found dead at an address in Preston have spoken of their shock at the grim discovery.
Police were called to reports of a serious assault at a house on Cedar Grove in Longton, Preston, at around 3.50am today (Friday, March 6).
However, one neighbour told the Lancashire Post the couple were quiet and "kept themselves to themselves".
He said: "I've spoken to him once or twice when he was in the car - he wasn't good on his legs.
"Of course it's very shocking, especially in a quiet area like this."
Emergency services attended and found the pensioner inside the property with serious injuries.
He was treated by paramedics, but later died.
A 31-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody.
A murder investigation is underway and enquiries on-going.
Det Ch Insp Leah Rice, of Lancashire Police, said: "A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a serious assault in Longton today.
"These are tragic circumstances and our thoughts are with the man involved and his family at this sad and very difficult time.
"While we have made an arrest, we remain in the early stages of our enquiries and would appeal to anyone with information about what has happened to come forward.
"It is believed the suspect and the male were known to each other and police do not believe there is a wider risk to the public at this stage."
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 0118 of March 6.
