Hen do attack horror for mother of the bride

Lisa Robinson was knocked unconscious when clubber Charlotte Kirby hurled a glass bottle at her head, after guests had told her she could not come into a private function room at a Preston club.

Her daughter was celebrating her upcoming wedding with her mum, sister, family and friends at Popworld on Church Street in the early hours of October 2.

Kirby, 25, of Tulketh Crescent, Ashton, pleaded guilty to wounding Mrs Robinson in a hearing before Preston Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecuting, Pam Ward said: “The injured party says at 2am on October 2 she was on her daughter’s hen party at Popworld.

“She was in a private room dancing when she saw a lady approach the room and try and get into the private party.

“Others were telling her that she wasn’t allowed in.

“She saw the defendant go to leave, and start to have a go at her daughter Natasha.

“She appeared to be aggressive so she approached her and told her it was a private party.”

But as the mum walked away Kirby threw a glass bottle which smashed on her head, and she fell to the ground unconscious.

When she came to paramedics were treating her for a nasty gash to her head, and she had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Since her ordeal she has suffered blurred vision, the court heard.

The magistrates bench said their powers were insufficient to deal with such a serious case as it had involved the use of a weapon under the influence of alcohol, and the injuries were serious.

Kirby’s defence lawyer said: “She did admit the matter in interview.

“She didn’t intend to hurt her, it was a reckless thing to do and she’s bitterly sorry for what she did.”

Kirby was given conditional bail, and ordered not to enter Popworld or be drunk in a public place.

She is expected to be sentenced on December 7 at Preston Crown Court.
