Gunshots fired as men wearing balaclavas flee Preston street

A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired twice from inside a car in Preston yesterday.

Police were called around 3.30pm on Sunday, August 30, to Elcho Street.

Three men wearing balaclavas were seen making off from the scene in a silver Land Rover in the direction of Garstang Road.

Detectives are appealing for information and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the weapon being discharged.

Det Insp Chris Wellard, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for information following a firearms discharge in Preston.

“The weapon, believed to be a shotgun, is thought to have been discharged from within a silver Land Rover, which had three men on board.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the gun being fired. If you saw what happened, or anyone acting suspiciously in the Elcho Street area, please come forward.

“Incidents of this nature are extremely rare, the police take them very seriously and we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation.”
