Flytipping shame for tattoo studio

These are the 40 bags of waste from a tattoo studio carelessly dumped on public land.

Coloured inks, tattoo images and paper correspondence were traced back to the Vintage Ink Tattoo Studio in Langcliffe Road, Brookfield, Preston,

Owner Daniel Phillipson, 31, of Sandon Terrace, Blackburn failed to attend court and was found guilty of failing to ensure waste was transferred to a registered waste carrier and failing to produce waste transfer notes.

Prosecuting for Preston City Council, Jorge Carrera said the case involved 40 bin bags flytipped at the junction of Frank Street and Southgate in Preston, containing evidence linking the waste to the business.

When approached by the council, Phillipson said he paid someone to remove the waste from his business, but had not checked their credentials, or obtained proof of transfer of the waste.

He failed to identify the carrier or produce waste transfer notes and was issued with a fixed Penalty Notice which he did not to pay - leading to the court case.

Preston Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay £740 in fines, a £44 surcharge and £490.20 costs.

Deputy council leader Coun John Swindells, said: “Businesses should be aware when they use someone else to dispose of their waste they have a responsibility to ensure that person is an authorised person and that the waste will not end up being flytipped.”
