A number of ducks have been found dead in a Lancashire canal after three boys were reportedly seen shooting at them with a catapult.

Police are investigating after the dead ducks were found in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Rishton, near Blackburn, yesterday (Sunday, July 5).

Earlier that day, police said they had received reports of three boys using a catapult to shoot stones at ducks from the canal bridge between High Street and Hermitage Street.

Upon investigating, officers discovered a number of fatally injured ducks and ducklings in the water nearby.
