Driver had drinks with friends and then got behind the wheel

A DRIVER stopped by police had had one too many drinks with a friend.

Peter Mulllington, unemployed, aged 61, of Holly Grove, Skitham Lane, Pilling, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £120 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Malcolm Isherwood, said on June 1 at 3.10pm police stopped Mullington’s Ford Ka on Preston New Road on the suspicion the vehicle had no insurance.

Officers could smell drink on him and a breath test showed 54 micrograms of alcohol in his body -35 is the limit.

Brett Chappell, defending, said his client was of previous unblemished character and embarrassed to be appearing at court. He had had drinks with a friend but felt fit and able to drive.
