He claimed it was money he had received from family members to purchase supplements for fitness training and weight loss - it wasn’t.
A spokesperson for the police said that it was linked to the small plastic bag they had also found in his car which contained 0.5kg of heroin.
Ali was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
His house was also searched and officers found more heroin.
Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Ali, of Camden Street in Nelson was charged with possession with intent to supply heroin and possession of criminal property.
He pleaded guilty to both offences and was jailed for six years when he appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday.
DC Kirsten Henry, of Burnley CID, said: “I welcome this significant sentence, which shows the police and courts will not tolerate drug-dealing on the streets of Lancashire.”
