DJ fled the scene after crashing into a car carrying a mum and two small children

Christopher Voges, 21, a telesales account manager and part time DJ, was driving without insurance or a licence when he misjudged the road on Duddle Lane, Walton-le-Dale at 9.45am on May 1.

He must pay a total of £525 in fines, surcharges and costs.

Magistrates heard he reversed sharply and collided with a mum’s car, as she and her children, aged 10, three and one, returned from a shop.

He told officers he had taken the wheel after his female passenger, who had no licence, decided she did not want to drive their friend’s car.

The pair had stayed at a party the previous night and the owner had “thrown” her keys at them so they could buy cigarettes.

Vaulks, of Adelphi Street, Preston, admitted failing to report an accident and driving without insurance or a licence.

Prosecuting, Kerry Grieve said: “The victim stopped her car to give the Mini enough room to manoeuvre but it suddenly reversed and hit her Fiat, and jolted the car and passengers.

“He stated: “It’s all my fault.”

She said a passer by started telling Vaulks to stay where he was. Vaulks fled the scene and later told officers: “A bald bloke with a jumper was getting in my face.”

The mum and her eldest child suffered whiplash and the mum had a swollen chest.

Defending, Sarah Wilkinson said: “He did check everyone was all right and had no intention of leaving the scene. A male passer by intervened.

“He states he was quite aggressive. It’s not a situation where he immediately fled from the scene.”
