Council issues scam warning after money taken

A council has issued a scam warning after reports that a man claiming to be a council officer had stolen money.

South Ribble Borough Council has issued the warning after a man claiming to work for the council knocked on a resident’s front door saying that the council had recieved complaints from neighbours about his garden being untidy.

The resident employed the gardener and gave him a sum of money to start the work.

However, the gardener never returned to carry out the work.

A South Ribble Borough Council spokesman said: “This man does not work for South Ribble Borough Council.

“Please can all residents remain alert and aware.”

Anyone who is called upon by this man is advised to contact Lancashire Police on 101.
