Chorley pervert snared by police officer who posed as child online

A man who communicated with someone he believed to be a child online has been ordered to sign the Sex Offender’s Register for five years.

Kenneth Heaps, 54, of Church Lane, Charnock Richard, Chorley, pleaded guilty to communicating with a child under 16 between May 7 and September 30 for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

An offence of attempting to meet the 14-year-old to commit an offence will lie on file.

It is understood he was caught by an undercover police officer posing as the boy.

Judge Andrew Jefferies QC, sitting at Preston Crown Court, imposed a three year community order with a 35 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also given a five year sexual harm prevention order, and barring notice.
