Chorley man appears in court accused of setting fire to a home with a family-of-three trapped inside

A 25-year-old man has appeared in court for the first time since he was accused of setting fire to a home in Chorley whilst a family slept upstairs.

Sean Anthony Fisher, from Devonport Way, Chorley, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday morning (August 24).

He has been charged with arson following an investigation into a fire at a terraced home in Vicarage Street in the early hours of June 24.

Fisher pleaded not guilty at the initial hearing before Magistrates and was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday, September 2, where a trial by jury will begin.

Fisher was arrested on Sunday, August 23 after he was found hiding in a loft at a home in Chorley.

The 25-year-old had been wanted in connection with an arson investigation after a fire in June left a family-of-three trapped inside their burning home.

Three people were rescued by firefighters, with crews having to smash an upstairs bedroom window to free them.

Following a joint investigation by Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the cause of the fire was deemed to have been deliberate.

A week after the fire, Lancashire Police issued an appeal to help find Sean Fisher after he was identified as a suspect in the arson investigation.
