Camelot blaze 'deliberate' say fire service as last standing building destroyed at former theme park

It’s the latest major fire at the Park Hall site in recent weeks...

A huge blaze at the former Camelot theme park in Charnock Richard was ‘started deliberately’, say the fire service.

Fire crews were called to the grounds of the former theme park next to Park Hall at 2.30pm on Sunday (June 7).

Local drone operator Andy Shute captured the fierce blaze as it engulfed the amusement park’s last standing building - a castle-themed structure made of timber.

The building was formerly a food court and soft play centre during the Camelot era, but was most recently used as part of the interactive horror attraction, Scare City Experience, which has operated on the site in recent years.

Firefighters tackled the blaze with jets and remained at the scene for around three hours. The building was destroyed in the fire, but no injuries were reported.

“It is believed the fire was started deliberately,” a spokesman for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service told the Post. “Lancashire Police were also in attendance at the incident.”

The fire service added: “At 2.33pm, four fire engines from Chorley, Bamber Bridge, Leyland and Wigan stations attended the derelict building fire at Park Hall Road, Charnock Richard.

“The building measured approximately forty metres by forty metres and was of timber construction. Firefighters used two jets and remained at scene around three hours.”

Lancashire Police were approached for comment.

The blaze is the second major fire to break out in the Park Hall area in recent weeks. Park Hall Nightclub was set alight on April 7, with a 16-year-old arsonist causing severe damage to the iconic nightspot. He has been charged and is currently being held in a youth detention centre where he awaits sentencing.
