Arson probe after caravan blaze

It was just one of a series of incidents which have kept Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service busy in the last 24 hours.

Firefighters were called to Alston Street, Ribbleton, Preston, on Friday night.

Two fire crews from Preston extinguished a blaze that had engulfed a towing caravan parked off-road.

The area was engulfed in smoke.

There were no casualties and firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used three hosereel jets to put the fire out and a thermal imaging camera to locate any possible pockets of fire still smouldering.

It is believed that youths had broken into the caravan and set it alight.

A fire service spokesman said police had been notified.

A few hours later firefighters were called to Rose Lane, Preston.

Two fire engines and crews were assigned to deal with a kitchen fire.

Officers equipped with breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire and a portable fan unit to extract the smoke and heat.

In another incident, the alarm was raised in Guide Road, Hesketh Bank

And this afternoon the fire service was called to Marsh Lane, Banks, near Southport

Firefighters from Tarleton used a hosereel jet to extinguish a fire involving a car off-road.

There were no casualties. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Police have been informed.
